Error message where you try to export a quote, a sales order, or an invoice from Small Business Accounting to Word or to Outlook: "OLE received a packet with an invalid extension" (914283)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to export a quote, a sales order, or an invoice from Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting to Microsoft Word or to Microsoft Outlook, you may receive the following error message:
OLE received a packet with an invalid extension.

CAUSE

The problem may be caused by a Microsoft .NET Framework setup issue.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, reinstall the Microsoft .NET Framework and the related service pack.

Uninstall the original .NET Framework

  1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In the Add or Remove Programs tool, select Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1, and then click Delete.
  3. Repeat step 2 to delete Microsoft .Net Framework 1.1 Hotfix and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0.
  4. Quit the Add or Remove Programs tool.

Reinstall the .NET Framework

  1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Windows Update.
  3. On the Windows Update home page, click Custom.
  4. In the Windows Update Home pane, click Software, Optional.
  5. In the Optional software updates pane, select Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1.
  6. Click Review and install updates.
  7. In the Customize your results pane, click Install Updates.
  8. Repeat step 7 to install all the updates.

Install the .NET Framework service pack

  1. In the High-priority updates pane, make sure that you click to select the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 check box.
  2. Click Review and install updates.
  3. In the Customize your results pane, click Install Updates.
  4. After the updates are installed, you will be prompted to restart the computer. Click Restart Now.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
