You cannot remove the Print Management Administration Pack more than one time on a Windows XP-based computer (914219)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You remove the Print Management Administration Pack on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer by using the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel.
  • You then install the Print Management Administration Pack on the computer.
In this scenario, you cannot remove the Print Management Administration Pack again by using the Add or Remove Programs item.

RESOLUTION

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Unregister the following files:
    • Pmcsnap.dll
    • Puiobj.dll
    • Puiapi.dll
    To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. At the command prompt, switch to the following folder:

      %windir%\Pmcsnap

      Note The %windir% folder is the folder where you installed Microsoft Windows.
    3. Type the following lines. Press ENTER after each line.

      Regsvr32 /u pmcsnap.dll
      Regsvr32 /u puiobj.dll
      Regsvr32 /u puiapi.dll

    4. Type exit, and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.
  2. Delete the following files in the %windir%\Pmcsnap folder.
    • Pmcsnap.dll
    • Ppcsnap.dll
    • Puiapi.dll
    • Puiobj.dll
    • Pushprinterconnections.exe
    • Printmanagement.msc
  3. Delete the Pmcmgmt registry entry. To do this, follow these steps.

    For computers that are running the x86 version of Windows XP

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. In the left pane, locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP<number>\Pmcmgmt

      Note In this subkey, <number> represents the service pack number of your current installation.
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes when you are prompted.
    5. Exit Registry Editor.

    For computers that are running the x64 version of Windows XP

    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. In the left pane, locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP Version 2003\SP<number>\Pmcmgmt

      Note In this subkey, <number> represents the service pack number of your current installation.
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes when you are prompted.
    5. Exit Registry Editor.
