About data analysis tools

Excel for Mac provides a set of data analysis tools called the Analysis ToolPak. You can use these tools to save steps when you develop complex statistical or engineering analyses. You provide the data and parameters for each analysis. The tools use the appropriate statistical or engineering macro functions, and then display the results in an output table. Some tools generate charts and also output tables. To use these tools, you must be familiar with the specific area of statistics or engineering for which you want to develop analyses.

Access the data analysis tools

To access the data analysis tools, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Data Analysis.

Note If the Data Analysis command is unavailable on the Tools menu, see the "Install and load the Analysis ToolPak" section.
  2. In the Analysis Tools box, click the tool you want to use.
  3. Enter the input range and the output range, and then select the options that you want.

Install and load the Analysis ToolPak

If the Data Analysis command is unavailable on the Tools menu, you must install and load the Analysis ToolPak. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Add-Ins.
  2. Click to select the Analysis ToolPak check box, and then click OK.
If the Analysis ToolPak check box is not listed in the Add-Ins dialog box, you must use the Value Pack Installer to install the Analysis ToolPak. For more information about how to install Value Pack components, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
