Office Shared Libraries This issue occurs when you double-click the file to start Word X for Mac and then open the file. You can open the document as expected when you use the Open command in Word X for Mac. CAUSEThis issue occurs if the file association information is missing or damaged.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, write the correct file association information to the file. To do this, follow these steps: - Click the file that you want to open in Word X for Mac.
- On the File menu, click Get Info.
- Expand Open with.
- In the Open with box, click Other.
- In the Choose Other Application dialog box, click Applications, click Microsoft Office X, click Microsoft Word, and then click Add.
Note If Microsoft Word is already selected in the Open with box, go to step 7. - Close the Get Info window, and then double-click the file to open the file in Word X for Mac. If the file does not open as expected, go to step 7.
- Click the file that you want to open in Word X for Mac.
- On the File menu, click Get Info.
- Expand Open with.
- In the Open with box, click TextEdit.
- Close the Get Info window.
- Click the file that you want to open in Word X for Mac.
- On the File menu, click Get Info.
- Expand Open with.
- In the Open with box, click Other.
- In the Choose Other Application dialog box, click Applications, click Microsoft Office X, click Microsoft Word, and then click Add.
- Close the Get Info window.
