SYMPTOMS

When you try to start the January 2006 Community Technology Preview (CTP) of Microsoft Expression Interactive Designer, the application does not start. When this problem occurs, you receive the following error message:
An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in ExprID.exe
Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

CAUSE

This problem may be caused by one of the following issues:
  • The January 2006 CTP of Microsoft WinFX Runtime Components 3.0 may prevent Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) applications from running correctly on processors other than the Intel Pentium 4 processor.

You may experience unexpected behavior when you run Expression Interactive Designer or other WPF applications on Intel Pentium 3 or earlier processors, on 64-bit processors, or on AMD processors.
  • A pre-release, or beta, version of the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 components may be installed on the computer. WPF experiences a failure when these components are present.

RESOLUTION

There is no resolution for this problem in the January 2006 CTP of the Expression Interactive Designer. This problem will be addressed in a future release.

However, you can update to the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. To do this, use the Add or Remove Programs tool in Control Panel to remove any beta versions of the .NET Framework 2.0 from the computer. Then, visit the Microsoft Update Web site to obtain the latest version of the .NET Framework 2.0:
