SYMPTOMS

You have Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) installed on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer. However, you notice that an outgoing event sink that is registered on the OnBeforeData protocol event is triggered two times.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you install the hotfix that is discussed in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

905214 Windows Server 2003 may stop responding when you enable the "Sender ID Filtering" setting on an SMTP virtual server in Exchange Server 2003 SP2

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article.
