The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Media Player 10
- Microsoft Windows Media Player for Windows XP Home Edition
- Microsoft Windows Media Player for Windows XP Professional
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Windows Explorer, when you copy a large file from a PlaysForSure-verified device or from a Microsoft Windows Media Player 10-compatible device to a local hard disk on a computer, you receive the following error message: The selected files could not be copied. There is not enough free space on the device. You receive this error message even though the local hard disk to which you copy the file has sufficient space for the file. CAUSEWindows Media Player 10 installs a component that enables device access through Windows Explorer. The component must make a temporary copy of a large file to successfully copy the file from the device to the computer. The component makes the temporary copy in the Temp directory on the drive partition where Windows is installed. Therefore, you cannot copy the file to any drive partition if the Temp directory has insufficient space to cache the file. This is true for computers that have multiple hard disk drives.RESOLUTIONFree space on the drive partition where Windows is installed. Typically, this is drive C. Free sufficient space to exceed the size of the largest file that you want to copy from the device to the computer.STATUS
This behavior is by design.
