When there are duplicate names on a network, the Lsass.exe process experiences performance problems on a Windows Server 2003-based domain controller (914026)

SYMPTOMSOn a Microsoft Windows
Server 2003-based domain controller, the Lsass.exe process experiences
performance problems. The
Lsass.exe process may
even crash. In this situation,
the domain controller automatically
restarts.
Note Additionally, various
domain controllers in a domain
may crash and then restart for
no obvious
reason.CAUSEThis issue occurs
when
there is a domain controller in a domain that uses the same
name as a domain controller in a different trusted domain.
Note This trust relationship may be either a parent-child trust in a
forest or a domain-domain trust.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this issue, rename
one of the two domain controllers.
Note It
is generally easier is to rename the domain
controller in
the local domain.STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are
listed in the "Applies to" section.
