SYMPTOMS

You install the Microsoft Windows OneCare Live beta on a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005-based computer. After you do this, you cannot connect to the Media Center Extender for Windows XP Media Center Edition.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if Windows OneCare Firewall is not configured for use with the Media Center Extender. The Media Center Extender uses network ports to communicate with the Windows XP Media Center Edition-based computer. The ports must not be blocked by Windows OneCare Firewall.

If one or more of these applications are not listed, follow these steps:
    1. Click Add.
    2. Type C:\WINDOWS\ehome\, and then press ENTER.
    3. Click Ehshell.exe, and then click Open.
    4. Click Add.
    5. Click Mcrdsvc.exe, and then click Open.
    6. Click Add.
    7. Click Ehexthost.exe, and then click Open.
    8. Click Add.
    9. Click MCXNetTw.exe, and then click Open.
    10. Click Add.
    11. Click MCRMgr.exe, and then click Open.
  5. Verify that each of these applications is set to Allow.

Step 2: Add the Media Center Extender ports to the Ports and Protocols tab in Windows OneCare Firewall

The following Media Center Extender ports must be added to the Ports and Protocols tab in Windows OneCare Firewall.
Port or protocol nameDirection Network
UDP 1900 Inbound Local Network
TCP 3390 Inbound Local Network
To add these ports, follow these steps:
  1. Open Windows OneCare, and then click View or change settings.
  2. Click the Firewall tab.
  3. Click Advanced settings.
  4. Click the Ports and Protocols tab.
  5. Click to select the Windows Media Extender - Xbox 360 (TCP 3390) check box and the Universal Plug and Play - Xbox 360 (UDP 1900) check box.

Note If these check boxes are not listed, upgrade to the latest version of Windows OneCare, or manually add these port settings. To manually add the port settings, click Add, and then insert the settings according to the table in this section.
  6. Click OK two times.

Note When you use multiple Personal Computers that have Internet Connection Sharing, you may have to repeat these steps on each Personal Computer in the network that includes the Internet Connection Sharing host server.
