SYMPTOMS

When you try to design a form in Microsoft Outlook 2002, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • You cannot design the form as expected.
  • You cannot open an Outlook Form template (.oft) file.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true on the computer that you are using:
  • You have Outlook 2002 installed, but you do not have Microsoft Word 2002 installed.
  • You have Microsoft Office XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) installed.

How to enable this hotfix

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.To enable this hotfix, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Outlook 2002.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click to select the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\security

  4. After you select the key that is specified in step 3, point to New on the Edit menu, and then click DWORD.
  5. Type AllowActiveXOneOffForms, and then press ENTER.
  6. Right-click AllowActiveXOneOffForms, and then click Modify.
  7. In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  8. On the File menu, click Exit to quit Registry Editor.
Note You can also create the AllowActiveXOneOffForms registry entry under the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \software\policies\microsoft\office\10.0\outlook\security

Note If you install this hotfix, Outlook 2002 may stop responding (hang) if you use a published one-off form that has an unsigned activeX control.
