SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. A Microsoft COM+ application is hosted on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003. You call the COM+ application from a computer that is running Microsoft Windows 2000. In this scenario, the original caller is unavailable.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because a different version of Microsoft Distributed COM (DCOM) is installed in Windows Server 2003 than in Windows 2000. When DCOM examines the client computer, the necessary data is not returned because the different version in Windows 2000 does not meet the security needs of the DCOM version that is installed in Windows Server 2003.
