The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2
SYMPTOMSIn Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2, when multiple threads in a process write to different files under the same directory, a volume is corrupted. Typically, when this problem occurs and you call the ScanVolume function, you receive one of the following error messages: Lost clusters Lost chains Invalid files CAUSEAn incorrectly positioned critical section causes a timing-related problem in the transaction-safe file allocation table (TFAT) component. The timing-related problem lets a thread in the TFAT component free a cluster that is being used by another TFAT thread. This causes the volume to be corrupted.RESOLUTIONSoftware update informationA supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE .NET 4.2 Core OS QFE 913483.
