Streets and Trips: The program cannot locate the Microsoft GPS Locator device (913187)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to scan for the Microsoft GPS Locator by using Microsoft Streets & Trips, the program cannot locate the device.

Additionally, the Windows Device Manager may not list the Microsoft GPS Locator when the device is connected to the computer.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if the drivers for the Microsoft GPS Locator device have not been installed correctly.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and then install the drivers for the Microsoft GPS locator from the Pharos Web site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Download the following driver file: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information.
  2. Unzip the file, and then save the folder to your desktop.
  3. Connect the GPS device to the computer by using the USB cable. You receive a message that states that there is an unidentified USB device.
  4. Click Install from a list or specific location (Advanced), and then click Next.
  5. Click Don't search I will choose the driver to install, and then click Next.
  6. Click Have Disk, select the unzipped folder on your desktop, and then open the folder that corresponds to the operating system that you are using.
  7. Click OK, and then click Next. If you receive an error message, click Yes.
  8. Start Streets & Trips to see whether the GPS device is working correctly.
