RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft SQL Server 2005 service pack that contains this hotfix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix. For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and information about support costs, visit the following Microsoft Web site:Note In special cases, charges that are ordinarily incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft Support Professional determines that a specific update will resolve your problem. The usual support costs will apply to additional support questions and issues that do not qualify for the specific update in question.

Prerequisites

You must have SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the hotfix stops and then restarts the Analysis Services service. If you have configured the server for HTTP access, you have to stop Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) and then restart IIS after the installation is finished. If you have installed SQL Server Analysis Services as a named instance, you must stop the SQL Server Browser service because the Msmdredir.dll component of the SQL Server Browser service is updated during the installation of the hotfix.

Registry information

You do not have to change the registry.

MORE INFORMATION

The installer for this hotfix will only replace the Msmdpump.dll file in the Drive:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\OLAP\bin\isapi directory. If you copied the Msmdpump.dll file to another location when you configured IIS to provide HTTP connectivity for SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, you must manually copy the updated Mdmdpump.dll file to that location.

Note Drive is a placeholder for the drive where you installed SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. MSSQL.x is a placeholder for the instance ID of the instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services that is currently running. To determine the instance ID for the instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, follow these steps:
  1. Start SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. In the right panel, double-click SQL Server Analysis Services(MSSQLSERVER) or your named instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services.
  3. Click the Advanced tab, and then note the instance ID information.
