Error message that you receive when you try to use MOM 2005 Reporting to run any one of the reports that are included with the Microsoft Web Sites and Services Management Pack: "Reporting Services Error" (912999)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 Reporting to run any one of the reports that are included with the Microsoft Web Sites and Services Management Pack, you receive the following error message:
Reporting Services Error --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online Help Query execution failed for data set 'Request_Sequence_Groups'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) Get Online Help SELECT permission denied on object 'SC_EventFact_Table', database 'SystemCenterReporting', owner 'dbo'. SELECT permission denied on object 'SC_EventParameterFact_Table', database 'SystemCenterReporting', owner 'dbo'. SELECT permission denied on object 'SC_EventDetailDimension_Table', database 'SystemCenterReporting', owner 'dbo'.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if the reports that are included with Web Sites and Services Management Pack incorrectly reference Microsoft SQL Server database tables in the SystemCenterReporting data warehouse. These reports should instead reference the corresponding SQL views.

RESOLUTION

A hotfix is unavailable for version 5.0.3025.0000 of the reports that are included with Web Sites and Services Management Pack. However, you can resolve this problem by changing the SQL queries in the report XML file that is included with the Web Sites and Services Management Pack. Then, import the modified report XML file. To do these things, follow these steps:
  1. Locate the MomWssMPReports.xml file that was extracted when you ran the Microsoft Virtual Server MOM 2005 MP.msi file.
  2. Make a backup copy of the MomWssMPReports.xml file.
  3. Right-click MomWssMPReports.xml, click Open With, click Notepad, and then click OK.
  4. Click Edit, and then click Replace.
  5. In the Find what box, type _Table.
  6. In the Replace with box, type _View, and then click Replace All.
  7. Save the MomWssMPReports.xml file.
  8. Import the updated MomWssMPReports.xml file to the SQL Reporting Services Web site by using the MOM Administrator console. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Right-click Management Packs, click Import/Export Management Pack, and then click Next.
    2. Click to select the Import Management Packs and/or Reports check box.
    3. Type the path of the updated MomWssMPReports.xml file, click to select the Import reports only check box, and then click Next.
    4. In the list of reports, click the updated MomWssMPReports.xml file, and then click Next.
    5. After the reports are imported, verify that the users who have only SC Dw Reader group permissions can successfully run the reports.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
