Error message when you try to install the Microsoft Windows Live OneCare: "Install Error ID 1279" or "Install Error ID 1280" (912968)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to install the Microsoft Windows Live OneCare on a Windows-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:
  • Install Error ID 1279
  • Install Error ID 1280
The installation stops when these errors occur.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 components that are part of the Windows Live OneCare are not correctly installed or are not functioning.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, remove the .NET Framework 1.1 components from the computer, and then try to reinstall the Windows Live OneCare. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. In Change or Remove Programs, click to clear the Show updates check box.
  3. Click Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1, and then click Change/Remove.
  4. When you are prompted to confirm the product removal, click Yes.
  5. Follow the instructions to remove the .NET Framework 1.1 components from the computer.
  6. If you see an entry for Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) in Currently installed programs, repeat steps 3 through 5 to remove this entry.
  7. Restart your computer.
  8. Reinstall the Windows Live OneCare .
