A "CheckXForestLogon: policy set to disable XForest check" message is logged in the Userenv.log file on a Windows XP-based computer (912897)

SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, the Userenv.log file may contain the following entry:CheckXForestLogon: policy set to disable XForest checkThis issue occurs when all the following conditions are true:
  • You enable USERENV logging to troubleshoot a Group Policy object (GPO) application problem.
  • You use Group Policy Object Editor to enable the Allow Cross-Forest User Policy and Roaming User Profiles policy.
For example, the following information may be logged in the Userenv.log file:USERENV(a9c.b80) 10:22:40:447 LibMain: Process Name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe USERENV(a9c.b80) 10:22:40:462 CheckXForestLogon: checking x-forest logon, user handle = 112 USERENV(a9c.b80) 10:22:40:478 CheckXForestLogon: policy set to disable XForest checkNote The information that is logged in the Userenv.log file implies that you have not configured the Allow Cross-Forest User Policy and Roaming User Profiles policy.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because there is a logical problem in the Userinit.exe file. The entry in the Userenv.log file is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

You do not have to do anything to resolve this issue. You can safely ignore the entry in the Userenv.log file.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
