Error message when you click "Exchange Hosting" to display the service plans in the MPS sample Web site in Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 3.5 or 3.0: "Object not set to instance of an object" (912833)

SYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. You run Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 3.5 or Microsoft Solution for Hosted Messaging and Collaboration 3.0. In the Microsoft Provisioning System (MPS) sample Web site, you click Exchange Hosting to display the service plans that are available to the current customer. In this scenario, you receive the following error message: Object not set to instance of
an object CAUSEThis issue occurs if a service plan was created without a description. The service plan is missing a value for the planDescription attribute.WORKAROUNDTo work around this issue, add a description to the service plan. No API exists to add a description to a plan. To add a description to a service plan, specify the text that you want in the PlanDescription field of the ServicePlans table in the HeCustomerDB database.
