INTRODUCTION

The article describes how to install Groove Virtual Office or Groove Workspace on a computer that has spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs installed.

MORE INFORMATION

Spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs detect many standard installation functions to help protect your computer from stealth installations. These functions include registering services and integrating with Microsoft Internet Explorer. Generally, you should disable the spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs before you start an intentional installation of any Microsoft Windows-based program. Then, restart the programs after the installation is finished. We recommend this approach when you install Groove.

Different spyware-fighting programs and adware-fighting programs have different controls. See the help topics for the program that you use to determine how to temporarily disable the program.

To prevent subsequent problems, the Groove Virtual Office 3.1 installation will stop with an error message if Groove detects that any one of the following programs is running:
  • Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware (Beta)
  • Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE
  • SpyBot Search & Destroy
If you receive an error message when you install Groove Virtual Office 3.1, disable the spyware-fighting program or adware-fighting program. Then, restart the installation. After Groove is successfully installed, you may restart the spyware-fighting program or the adware-fighting program.

If you use another spyware-fighting program, and you want to leave it active when you install Groove, you must answer Allow to all the messages that are triggered by the installation. If you block individual pieces of the Groove installation, Groove will not function correctly. For a successful installation, Groove must perform many tasks that will be detected by spyware-fighting programs. These tasks include installing services, copying files, modifying the registry, and adding extensions to Internet Explorer and to Windows Explorer.

The proliferation of spyware has caused a similar increase in the number of spyware-fighting programs. Therefore, any list of such programs quickly becomes incomplete. The following list contains some other common spyware-fighting programs and adware-fighting programs that you may be running:
  • Spyware Eliminator

  • Spy Sweeper
  • Pest Patrol
  • McAfee Antispyware
  • NoAdware
  • PALSol
  • SpyKiller
  • Spy Hunter
  • XoftSpy
  • StopZilla!
