RESOLUTION
If you cannot start Groove after a successful installation, do not try to uninstall Groove or reinstall an earlier version of Groove. These actions may leave Groove in an unusable state.
To resolve this issue, follow these steps.
Step 1: Restart the computer
Sometimes a registration is unsuccessful. In this situation, restarting the computer again resolves the problem. If Groove Virtual Office 3.1 still does not start after you restart the computer again, go to step 2.
Step 2: Reinstall Groove Virtual Office 3.1 without any spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs running
If you install Groove Virtual Office 3.1 when you are running spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs, the installation may be incomplete. We recommend that you exit these programs before you install Groove. Look in the notification area to determine whether you have any spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs running. If one or more of these programs are running, exit the programs. Then, reinstall Groove Virtual Office 3.1. If no spyware-fighting programs or adware-fighting programs are running, or if reinstalling Groove does not resolve the problem, go to step 3 or step 4, depending on your situation:
- Go to step 3 if you are upgrading from an earlier version of Groove Virtual Office 3.x.
- Go to step 4 if you are installing Groove for the first time or if you are upgrading from Groove Virtual Office 2.5 or an earlier version of Groove.
Step 3: Verify the version of the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of Groove Virtual Office 3.x, the version of the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file must match the version of Groove that you are installing. For example, if the version of the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file is 3.1.0.2333, the version of Groove that you install must be 3.1.0.2333. To verify the version of the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file, right-click the file in Windows Explorer, click
Properties, and then click the
Version tab. If you install Groove by using the default settings, the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file should be located in the following folder:
%programfiles%\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin
If you did not use the default setting when you installed Groove, the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file will be located in the location that you specified during the initial installation. If the version of the GrooveShellExtensions.dll file does not match the version of Groove that you are installing, reinstall Groove. Then, restart the computer. If the versions match, or if reinstalling Groove does not resolve the problem, go to step 4.
Step 4: Run the GrooveIV utility
The Groove Installation Verification (GrooveIV) utility resolves many problems that are caused by incomplete installations. You must run the GrooveIV utility in a Command Prompt window. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- Open the %programfiles%\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin folder. If you install Groove Virtual Office 3.1 in the default location, run one of the following commands:
- If you use a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000, run the following command:
cd %programfiles%\Groove Networks\Groove\Bin
- If you use a computer that is running an earlier version of Windows, run the following command:
cd progra~1\groove~1\groove\bin
- Type GrooveIV -nocom -nover -noreg -regall, and then press ENTER.
- Close the Command Prompt window.
- Try to start Groove Virtual Office 3.1.
