A looped presentation does not stop when you press ESC in PowerPoint 2003 or in PowerPoint 2002 (912677)

SYMPTOMS

When you press ESC, a looped presentation that is played continuously at the start of a master presentation does not stop in Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003 or in Microsoft PowerPoint 2002.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the looped presentation and the master presentation are not configured to work together.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Format the looped presentation. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the looped presentation.
    2. On the Slide Show menu, click Set Up Show.
    3. Under Show type, make sure that the Presented by a speaker (full screen) option is enabled.
    4. Under Show options, make sure that the Loop continuously until 'Esc' check box is selected.
    5. Under Advance slides, make sure that the Using timings, if present option is enabled, and then click OK.
    6. On the Slide Show menu, click Slide Transition.
    7. Under Advance slide, make sure that the Automatically after check box is selected. Additionally, make sure that the specified time is set.
    8. Repeat step 1g for all the slides in the looped presentation.
  2. Format the master presentation. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Open the master presentation.
    2. In the master presentation, click the slide at which you want the looped presentation to stop.
    3. On the Insert menu, click New Slide.
    4. Click the new slide, and then click Object on the Insert menu.
    5. Click Create from file, and then click Browse.
    6. In the Look in list, click the looped presentation file, and then click OK two times.
    7. Resize and reposition the inserted object so that it fills the whole slide area.
    8. Click the inserted object, and then click Custom Animation on the Slide Show menu.
    9. Click Add Effect, point to Object Actions, and then click Show.
    10. In the Start list, click With Previous.
    11. On the Slide Show menu, click Slide Transition.
    12. Under Advance slide, make sure that the Automatically after check box is selected. Additionally, make sure that the time is set to 00:00.
When you view the slide show, the looped presentation will start automatically at the slide where the looped presentation was inserted in the master presentation. The looped presentation will continue to loop until you press ESC. When you press ESC, the slide show will advance to the next slide.
