The offline address book regeneration operation fails, and event ID 9328 may be logged in Exchange Server 2003 (912591)

SYMPTOMS

When Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 tries to regenerate an offline address book, the operation fails. Additionally, the following event ID may be logged in the System event log on the server that is running Exchange Server 2003: Event Type: Error

Description: OALGen encountered file error 80070008 (internal ID 50002c3) while generating the offline address list for address list '\Global Address List'. Make sure there is enough disk space available. - Default Offline Address List

CAUSE

This problem may occur when an Exchange Server organization contains at least 1.5 million mail-enabled objects in the Active Directory directory service.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix.
