You cannot open the SQL Server Mobile Setup Help file in the SQL Server Mobile Server Tools installation wizard (912434)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition

SYMPTOMS

When you click Help in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition (SQL Server Mobile) Server Tools installation wizard, you cannot open the SQL Server Mobile Setup Help file.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the SQL Server Mobile Setup Help file and the SQL Server Mobile Server Tools installation file are not in the same folder during the installation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Start to install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.

    Note If the computer already has Visual Studio 2005 installed, go to step 5.
  2. On the Select features to install page, click Custom, and then click Next.
  3. Under Language Tools, expand Visual Basic, Visual C++, or Visual C#.
  4. Click to select the Smart Device Programmability check box, and then click Install.
  5. After you complete the installation, locate the following folder:

    VSInstallPath\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\SQL Server\Mobile\v3.0

    Note VSInstallPath is a placeholder for the location where you installed Visual Studio 2005.
  6. Copy the Setupsqlmobile.chm file to the folder where you start the SQL Server Mobile Server Tools installation wizard.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
