FIX: The terminal session may stop responding when an audio clip is played on the server at the same time an audio clip is played locally by the thin client (912200)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows CE 5.0

SYMPTOMS

If a short audio clip, such as a system beep, is played on a server at the same time that a short audio clip, such as a keyclick, is played locally by the thin client, the Microsoft Windows Terminal Server terminal session may stop responding to keyboard user input or mouse user input for 5 to 20 seconds. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are connected to a terminal server by using Remote Desktop Connection.
  • The audio is redirected to the local Microsoft Windows CE thin client.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a race condition. A race condition occurs between redirected audio that is played by the Terminal Server client and local audio that is played on the Windows CE operating system. When this condition occurs, an event signal is missed. The missed signal causes a time-out delay to occur. During the delay, user input is not processed.
