You may not be able to send fax messages after you upgrade a computer from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional (912020)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional
SYMPTOMSYou may not be able to use Microsoft Office Outlook to send fax messages after you upgrade a computer from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional to Microsoft Windows XP Professional.CAUSEThis behavior occurs because the Windows 2000 Fax Transport service and the Windows XP Fax Transport service have the same name. When you upgrade from Windows 2000 Professional to Windows XP Professional, the Windows 2000 Fax Transport service is not replaced by the Windows XP Fax Transport service. Therefore, you cannot use Outlook to send fax messages from the Windows XP-based computer.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, remove and then add Fax Mail Transport from E-mail Accounts in Outlook. To do this, follow these steps. In Microsoft Office Outlook 2003- Open Office Outlook 2003.
- On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
- Click View or change existing e-mail accounts, and then click Next.
- Click Fax Mail Transport, and then click Remove.
- Click Yes to confirm removal, and then click Finish.
- On the File menu, click Exit.
- Restart Outlook.
- On the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts.
- Click Add a new e-mail account, and then click Next.
- On the Server Type page, click Additional Server Types.
- Make sure that Fax Mail Transport is selected in the Additional Server Types list, click Next, and then click Finish.
In Microsoft Office Outlook 2000- Open Office Outlook 2000.
- On the Tools menu, click Services.
- On the Services tab, click Fax Mail Transport, and then click Remove.
- Click Yes to remove this service from the profile.
- Click OK two times.
- On the File menu, click Exit and Log Off.
- Restart Outlook.
- On the Tools menu, click Services.
- On the Services tab, click Fax Mail Transport, and then click Add.
- Click OK two times.
