Error when you install Microsoft Small Business Accounting: "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MICROSOFTSMLBIZ) is canceling" or an "Error 1500. Another installation is in progress" (912003)

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Use this method if you receive the following error message:

1. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL, and then click Task Manager.
2. On the Applications tab, click Microsoft Small Business Accounting, and then click End Task.
3. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
4. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 or Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006 CD2, and then click Remove.
   
   Note You may receive the following error message:
   Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that installation before continuing this one.
   If you receive this message, click Cancel, and then use method 2 to resolve this problem. If you do not receive this message, go to step 5.
5. Restart the computer.
6. Install Small Business Accounting from the installation CD.

Method 2

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that these problems can be solved. Modify the registry at your own risk.

Use this method if you receive the following error message:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK to start Registry Editor.
2. Locate and delete the following subkey in the registry:
   
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\InProgress
3. Close all windows, and then restart the computer.
4. Install Small Business Accounting from the installation CD.
