WDS 2.6.5 releases on April 13, 2006. WDS 2.6.5 extends the value of desktop search by providing improvements in stability and in performance. WDS 2.6.5 addresses delays in system shutdowns and provides three new Group Policy settings for the administrator to use.

Note You must restart the computer if you install WDS 2.6.5 on an earlier version of WDS.

Minimum system requirements

The following are the minimum system requirements for installing WDS 2.6.5:
  • The computer must be running one of the following operating systems:
    • Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1) or a later version
    • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or a later version
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 (SP4) or a later version
    Note Itanium and x64-based versions of Windows are not supported currently.
  • The computer must have 128 megabytes (MB) of random access memory (RAM). We recommend 256 MB or more of RAM.
  • The computer must have a Pentium 500-megahertz (MHz) processor or a faster processor. We recommend a 1-gigahertz (GHz) processor.
  • The computer must have 500 MB of free hard disk space.
  • The computer must have a screen resolution of 1024 x 768.
  • The computer must have one of the following programs installed to index and search e-mail messages:
    • Microsoft Outlook 2000 or a later version
    • Microsoft Outlook Express 6.0 or a later version
