SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You are using Microsoft Internet Explorer on a Microsoft Windows Vista-based computer. You decide to save a favorite in the Internet Explorer Favorites folder. During this process, you type a very long name for the new favorite. In this scenario, Internet Explorer no longer works correctly. For example, you cannot remove the focus from the Add Favorite dialog box. Or, Internet Explorer stops responding (hangs).

CAUSE

This problem occurs because Internet Explorer 7, the version that is currently included in Windows Vista, does not let you type a favorite name that is longer than 221 characters.

WORKAROUND

To prevent this problem, make sure that the name of the new favorite is no longer than 221 characters.
