FIX: An access violation may occur when you declare a global type recordset variable and you try to close the recordset in Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1 (911855)

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft ActiveX Data Objects (ADO)-based application that uses Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 Service Pack 1 (SP1), an access violation may occur. This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You declare a global type recordset variable.
  • You try to close the recordset.
  • You use Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next MDAC 2.8 service pack that contains this hotfix.
