The number of connections in the Connections Current counter sometimes reaches 4 billion in Exchange Server 2003 (911577)

SYMPTOMSWhen you use Performance Monitor to monitor the MSExchangePOP3 object or the MSExchangeIMAP4 object on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, you may notice that the number of connections in the Connections Current counter sometimes reaches 4 billion.
Note Although the Connections Current counter reports many connections, you do not experience a deterioration of service or of performance levels on the Exchange server. You can continue to use the Exchange services without any disruption.CAUSEThis problem occurs if the Connections Current counter reports a negative number of connections. This situation may occur if a client computer cannot make an SSL connection to the Exchange server.RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 service pack that contains this hotfix. To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft Product Support Services to obtain the hotfix.
