A personal e-mail template is unexpectedly overwritten when you import another personal e-mail template that has the same title in Microsoft Dynamics CRM (911475)



The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario in Microsoft Dynamics CRM:
  1. You create one or more personal e-mail templates on a computer that is running Microsoft Dynamics CRM Server. The title of all these templates is "E-mail Template."
  2. You export the personal e-mail templates.
  3. You create a personal e-mail template on a different Microsoft Dynamics CRM server. This server belongs to a Microsoft Dynamics CRM domain that differs from the domain to which the server that is mentioned in step 1 belongs. The title of this template is also "E-mail Template."
  4. You import the personal e-mail templates that you exported in step 2 to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server that is mentioned in step 3.
In this scenario, you experience the following problems:
  • The personal e-mail template that you created in step 3 is unexpectedly overwritten.
  • Only one of the personal e-mail templates is imported.
Note These problems also occur when you import KB templates.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the title of the personal e-mail templates or of the KB templates before you export them. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Dynamics CRM, click Settings, click Settings, click Templates, and then click E-Mail Templates.
  2. Open a template.
  3. In the Title box, change the title.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
