The Windows Mobile-based Smartphone may not use the GPRS connection when the Modem Link utility is running in Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Smartphones (911425)

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Smartphones, you try to use a newly configured General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) connection.
  • The Modem Link utility is running.
In this scenario, the Windows Mobile-based Smartphone may not use the GPRS connection.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, exit the Modem Link utility. Then, restart the Modem Link utility.

Steps to reproduce the behavior

  1. Make sure that no GPRS connections are configured on the Windows Mobile-based Smartphone.
  2. On the Windows Mobile-based Smartphone, click Start, click More, click Accessories, and then click Modem Link.
  3. In the Modem Link window, use the appropriate settings for transport.
  4. Click Menu, click Activate, click Done, and then click Home.
  5. Click Start, and then click Settings.
  6. Click Data Connections, click Menu, and then click Edit Connections.
  7. Click GPRS Connections, click Menu, and then click Add.
  8. In the Add GPRS window, configure a valid GPRS connection, click Done to save the new GPRS connection, and then click Home.
Note When you try to use the Modem Link utility by dialing *99# from a laptop, the Windows Mobile-based Smartphone does not use the GPRS connection until you exit the Modem Link utility and then restart the Modem Link utility.
