Xbox 360: You cannot use a Windows XP Media Center Remote with the Xbox 360 (911122)

SYMPTOMS

When you try to use a Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Remote Control with the Xbox 360, the remote does not control the Xbox 360.

CAUSE

The Xbox 360 may not be set to allow for both the Xbox 360 remotes and the Windows XP Media Center Remote.

THINGS TO TRY

The Xbox 360 console can be configured to use the Windows XP Media Center Remote. This lets you use the familiar remote features to control the Windows XP Media Center features that are available on the Xbox 360.

To use a Windows XP Media Center Remote together with the Xbox 360, follow these steps:
  1. From the Xbox Dashboard, locate the Settings section.
  2. Select Console Settings.
  3. Select Remote Control.
  4. Select All Channels.
  5. Exit to the Xbox Dashboard.

If the Xbox 360 console is turned off, press Start to turn on the Xbox 360 console and to start Windows XP Media Center. If you are in the Xbox Dashboard, press Start from any location to jump straight to Windows XP Media Center.

You cannot program the volume control of the Windows XP Media Center Remote to control the volume of the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is similar to the CD player in that the audio controls are at a fixed volume level and cannot be adjusted.
