Events 1481 and 1084 are logged in the Directory Service log on a Windows Server 2003-based domain controller (911015)

SYMPTOMS

On a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based domain controller, the following events are logged in the Directory Service log:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: NTDS Replication
Event Category: Internal Processing
Event ID: 1481
Description:
Internal error: The operation on the object failed. Additional Data Error value: 5 000020D9: SvcErr: DSID-031B0D4E, problem 5001 (BUSY), data
Note: The hexadecimal number in the "DSID-031B0D4E" string varies, depending on the file version of the Active Directory files that you are using.

Event Source: NTDS Replication
Event Category: Replication
Event ID: 1084
Description:
Internal event: Active Directory could not update the following object with changes received from the following source domain controller. This is because an error occurred during the application of the changes to Active Directory on the domain controller.

Synchronization of the local domain controller with the source domain controller is blocked until this update problem is corrected.

This operation will be tried again at the next scheduled replication.

Restart the local domain controller if this condition appears to be related to low system resources (for example, low physical or virtual memory).

Error value: 8409 A database error has occurred.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when an Active Directory object that is currently being used is deleted from the Active Directory directory service. In this situation, the replication engine will try to delete the object later.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Objects that are deleted from Active Directory are first moved to the Deleted Objects container. Objects in the Deleted Objects container are tombstones that will be removed during the next garbage collection cycle.

If the deleted object was being used at the time that it was deleted, the object cannot be moved to the Deleted Objects container. The replication engine moves objects to the Deleted Objects container only when these objects are not being used.
