SYMPTOMSAfter you install Update Rollup 2 for Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, you may experience one or more of the following problems:
- When you try to open My TV, you may receive the following error message:
Component Registration Failure
Some of the files needed to play radio or video are missing or corrupt. Media Center component registration may have failed.
- When you try to configure an Internet connection, you may receive the following error message :
Critical Process Failure
A critical Media Center process has unexpectedly failed. If problems persist, please restart your machine and try again, or contact technical support. Code: 3
- When you try to set up the TV signal, you may receive the following error message:
Tuner Not Found
CAUSEThese problems may occur in the following scenario: - Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is reinstalled or updated in such a way that certain .NET Framework files are retrograded.
- Update Rollup 2 is installed.
In this scenario, the problem occurs because the wrong version of the Mscoree.dll file is installed on the computer.
Update Rollup 2 requires Mscoree.dll version 1.1.4322.2032 or a later version.
Note The Mscoree.dll file is installed in the following folder:
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1, and then reinstall Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005: - Install the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 by downloading the Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package.
