You receive a security warning when you open a FrontPage 2003 Web page that uses JavaScript in Internet Explorer (910878)

SYMPTOMS

You create a Web page that uses JavaScript in Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. When you preview the Web page in Microsoft Internet Explorer, you may receive a security warning that indicates that some of the active contents are prevented from running in Internet Explorer. Additionally, the JavaScript on the Web page will not run.

Note You will receive this warning whenever you try to run a Web page that contains any kind of scripts or ActiveX controls.

CAUSE

This issue may occur if Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) is installed on the computer. By default, the enhanced Internet Explorer security features that are included in Windows XP SP2 prevent scripts, such as JavaScript, and ActiveX controls from running in Internet Explorer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, modify the Internet Explorer settings to enable scripts and ActiveX controls to run. To do this, you must disable the security warning.

Important We recommend that you do not disable the security warning. Some of the scripts and ActiveX controls that you run may contain elements that affect the security of the computer.

To disable the security warning, follow these steps in Internet Explorer:

On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab.
In the Settings list, click to select the Allow active content to run in files on My Computer check box under Security, and then click OK. This option lets you run scripts and ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer.
On the File menu, click Close.

In most scenarios, you will receive this security warning only if the Web page is located on the local hard disk. Users who browse the Internet do not usually experience this issue.
