When you try to back up your personal folders file in Outlook, you find that the Backup command is missing from the File menu (910873)

SYMPTOMSWhen you try to back up your personal folders (.pst) file in Microsoft Outlook, the Backup command is missing from the File menu.
Note This behavior may occur even after you install the Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup tool.RESOLUTIONTo resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods depending on your version of Outlook. Method 1: Enable the Personal Folders Backup toolIf the Personal Folders Backup tool has been disabled in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 or in Microsoft Outlook 2002, follow these steps to enable the tool: - On the Help menu, click About Microsoft Office Outlook.
- Click Disabled Items.
- In the Disabled Items dialog box, click Personal Folders Backup, and then click Enable.
- Click Close to close the Disabled Items dialog box.
- Click OK to close the About Microsoft Office Outlook dialog box.
- Quit and then restart Outlook.
Method 2: Add the Personal Folders Backup Add-inThis method applies to all the versions of Outlook that are listed in the Applies To section. To add the Personal Folders Backup tool, follow these steps: - On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Other tab, click Advanced Options, and then click COM Add-Ins.
- Use one of the following procedures:
- If Outlook Backup Addin is listed in the COM Add-Ins dialog box, click to select the Outlook Backup Addin check box, and then click OK.
- If Outlook Backup Addin is not listed in the COM Add-Ins dialog box, click Add and then follow these steps:
- Leave the Add Add-In dialog box open.
- Click Start, click Search, and then click All files and folders.
- Make sure that your local hard drives are selected in the Look in box. Then, in the All or part of the file name box, type Outbak.dll, and then click Search.
- Right-click the Outbak.dll file, and then click Copy.
- Press ALT+TAB to switch back to the Add Add-In dialog box.
- Right-click in the Add Add-In dialog box, and then click Paste.
- Click OK to close the Add Add-In dialog box.
- Click OK to close the COM Add-Ins dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Advanced Options dialog box.
- Click OK to close the Options dialog box.
- Quit and then restart Outlook.
