Error message when you create a new package in SMS 2003: "Failed to create SMS Package object. (Error code: 0x80041001)" (910806)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a new package, you receive the following error:
Failed to create SMS Package object. (Error code: 0x80041001)

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the name of the package includes an invalid character. Invalid characters include quotation marks and semicolons.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this problem, do not use an invalid character in the name of the package.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
