The information in this article applies to:
SUMMARYExtended characters can be used in Microsoft CRM 1.2. However after upgrading, Microsoft CRM 3.0 Entities that reference these attribute names will not be further customizable and cannot be used for import operations.
Microsoft CRM 3.0 does not support special or extended characters in the logical names of custom attributes. Microsoft CRM 3.0 analyzes your Microsoft CRM database and if custom attributes with extended characters in the names are detected, the following warning message is generated:Warning: Detected custom attributes with unsupported characters in the logical name.If this warning is displayed during Microsoft CRM Setup, upgrade should be allowed to continue and will complete successfully. The complete list of the attributes is saved in the Microsoft CRM logs.
RESOLUTIONCaution: Do not follow these procedures unless you have received a warning message during setup. If the attributes identified in the logs are not being used, you can delete the attributes. If, however, you attempt to delete the attribute and the schema manager warns you that the attribute is being used elsewhere, for example, in forms or workflow, you should contact Microsoft Product Support. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;[LN];CNTACTMSThe Product Support Website lists the Microsoft Product Support Services telephone numbers and gives you information about support costs.
