FIX: An access violation may occur when you use Internet Explorer 6 to visit a Web page that uses HTML Components to do DHTML scripting (910645)

SYMPTOMS

When you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, an access violation may occur and Internet Explorer may unexpectedly close. The access violation may occur when you visit a Web page that uses HTML Components (HTCs) to do dynamic HTML (DHTML) scripting.

Note A Web page that uses HTC has an .htc file name extension.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of a code defect in the Mshtml.dll file.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
