How to obtain and to install the update
The client updateTo obtain and to install the client update, follow these steps:
- Download the client update to a folder on your computer. To obtain the client update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- In the folder in which you downloaded the update, double-click the OfficeXP-kb910474-fullfile-enu.exe file to start the installation of the update for Office XP (KB910474).
- If you are prompted to install the update, click Yes.
- Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
- Insert the Office XP CD-ROM if you are prompted, and then click OK.
- If you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
The administrative updateIf you installed Office XP from a server location, the server administrator must update the server location by using the administrative update. Then, the server administrator must deploy the update to your computer.
If you are the server administrator, follow these steps to download the administrative update:
- In Microsoft Windows Explorer, create a new folder on drive C, and then name the folder "KB910474".
- Download the administrative update to the KB910474 folder that you created in step 1. To obtain the update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
- Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
- At the command prompt, type the following commands. Press ENTER after each line.

OfficeXP-kb910474-fullfile-enu.exe /c /t:c:\kb910474
- Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
The following files will be extracted to the KB910474 folder: - Excelff.msp
- Powerpntff.msp
- Winwordff.msp
- If you are familiar with the procedure for updating your administrative installation, click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:
msiexec /a AdminPath\MSI File /p C:\kb910474\MSP File SHORTFILENAMES=TRUE
In this command, AdminPath is the path of your administrative installation point for Office XP. For example, you can type C:\OfficeXP. MSI File is the name of the .msi database package for the Office XP program. For example, you can type Pro10.msi. MSP File is the name of the administrative update.
Note You can append the /qb+ switch to the command line. When you use this switch, the Office XP Administrative Installation dialog box and the End User License Agreement dialog box do not appear. - To deploy the update to the client workstations, click Start, click Run, type the following command, and then click OK:
msiexec /i AdminPath\MSI File REINSTALL=Feature List REINSTALLMODE=vomu
In this command, AdminPath is the path of your administrative installation point for Office XP. For example, you can type C:\OfficeXP. MSI File is the name of the MSI database package for the Office XP program. For example, you can type Pro10.msi. Feature List is the list of feature names that have to be reinstalled for the update. The feature names in the feature list are case sensitive. To install all features, you can use the REINSTALL=ALL command. Or, you can use the command-line options in the following table to install the appropriate feature: Feature to install | Command-line option |

- Repeat steps 6 and 7 as appropriate for each .msp file until all .msp files have been installed.
Note You must restart the computer after you apply this update.
