SYMPTOMS

When you enable the Automatic Updates service, you experience one or more of the following symptoms:
  • Recent updates are not downloaded or installed on the computer.
  • The Automatic Updates icon does not display the status of downloads that are in progress.
Additionally, the following entry may be logged in the Windowsupdate.log file:
Date Time 1304 fb0 DnldMgr
* Update is not allowed to download due to regulation. Note The Windowsupdate.log file is located in the %Windir% folder.

Note This issue does not affect updates that come from Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), from the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, or from the Microsoft Update Web site.

CAUSE

During periods of heavy download traffic, the Automatic Updates service can reschedule download requests on a day-to-day basis. This rescheduling can occur over several days.

RESOLUTION

The Automatic Updates service is designed to resume and complete the download as quickly as possible. Usually, the update will usually be downloaded and installed in several days. However, you can manually install the updates. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Update or Microsoft Update.
  2. Click Express or Custom to scan for available updates.
  3. After the scan finishes, follow the instructions on the screen to install the updates that you want.
