INTRODUCTION

This article describes the Microsoft Excel 2002 issues that are fixed in the Excel 2002 post-Service Pack 3 hotfix package that is dated November 11, 2005.

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • Consider the following scenario. You start Excel 2002 by using the /n switch. Excel 2002 starts without a new blank workbook. Then, you run a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro that loads an .xla add-in file. In this scenario, the add-in file is not loaded. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
    Run-time error '1004':

'filename.xla' could not be found. Check the spelling of the file name, and verify that the file location is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the File menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved, or deleted.
  • When you open a workbook that contains a conditional formatting formula to an off-sheet reference, Excel 2002 may unexpectedly quit. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Excel has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
