How to re-associate an Online statement to the appropriate Microsoft Money account (910214)

SUMMARYWhen downloading your online statements from your financial institution, your accounts may have incorrectly been assigned to your existing Money accounts. This article describes how to break the association with the current Money account and then re-associate the online statement downloads to the appropriate Microsoft Money account.MORE INFORMATIONWhen downloading your online statement information into Microsoft Money, your financial institution may have different statement offerings. Review the following methods and choose the one that best fits your situation. To re-associate a Web statement to the appropriate Money account, use the following methods in the order that they appear. Method 1To break the current association of a Web statement to your Microsoft Money 2005 or later account, follow these steps: - Start Money.
- Click the Banking tab.
- Under Account List, locate the account that is incorrectly linked to the Web statement. If you have a downloaded statement to read for that account, Right-click on transactions to read and then click Delete Statement.
- Click the Banking tab, and then click Manage online services, in the left pane.
- Click Specify where accounts are held, click the account in the list that is associated with the Web statement, and then click Move Account.
- In the Move Account dialog box, click Not held at a financial institution, click OK, and then click Done.
Once you have moved the account to Not held at a financial institution, you will then need to download the Web statement from the financial institution's Web site. To re-associate a Web statement to the appropriate Money 2005 or later account, follow these steps: - Download the latest Web statement again from the financial institution's Web site.
- You will receive an Import a file dialog box that requests that you re-associate the file. Click the correct account in the drop down list, and then click Next.
- In the Import Summary dialog box, click OK.
- Verify whether the Web statement information has been transferred to the correct account
If Method 1 does not resolve your issue and you are not receiving the error message:
A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have problems call your financial institution's Online Services Customer Support.
Please proceed to Method 2 below.
Important Sometimes these steps may not resolve the issue. When you try to import the Web statement, you may receive an error message that is similar to the following: A communication error occurred. Please try your call again. If you continue to have
problems call your financial institution's Online Services Customer Support. If you receive this error message, reassign your accounts to the correct financial institution, to do this, follow these steps: - Start Money.
- Click the Banking tab, and then click Manage online services.
- Click Specify where accounts are held, click the account in the list that is associated with the Web statement, and then click Move Account.
- In the Move Account dialog box, click Held at, type the name of the financial institution in the list, and then click OK.
- Repeat for each account you need to reassign.
- Click Done two times after all the accounts have been assigned.
Note Under certain circumstances, you may have already accepted all the
transactions from the latest Web statement. If this is the case, use one of the following methods: - Download another Web statement from your bank that contains the latest information, and
then continue with the steps that are listed in Method 2.
- Delete at least one
of the last accepted transactions that are incorrectly associated with
the account. Then, continue with the steps that are listed in Method 2.
Method 3
If the steps that are listed in Method 1 does not resolve the issue, you can change your account currency settings to force Money to enable you to re-associate your account. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Money.
- On the Account list , right-click the account that the statement is incorrectly being imported into, and then click Account Details.
- Change the Currency from US Dollars or your current currency selection to anything else.
- Click Done.
- On the Tools menu, point to Internet Updates, and then click Update Now. This will perform an update of your online quotes and exchange rates.
- When the update is completed, close Money.
- Start Money.
- Try to import your online statement. You will receive a warning message that states that the currencies do not mach. Click OK.
- Import your statement again. You are prompted to select the account that you want to import the information into.
- When the import is completed, follow steps 2 through 4 to change your currency back to US Dollars or your previous currency selection.
To re-associate an OFX statement to the correct Microsoft Money account, delete the downloaded statements, turn off online services for the account, and then turn them on again. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Delete Online Statements from Your Account List
To delete online statements from your account list, follow these steps:
- Open Money.
- Click on the Banking tab.
- Locate the account that has an incorrect statement associated with it.
- Right-click Transactions to read next to the account name.
- Click Delete Statement .
All downloaded transactions that you have not yet verified are deleted.
After you have deleted the statement, it is time to turn off your online services. Step 2: Turn Off Online Services for the Account
To turn off online services for the account, follow these steps:
- To avoid unnecessary service charges, contact your bank, broker, or other service provider and ask to cancel the services. To find the contact information for your bank or broker:
- On the Money navigation bar, click the Banking tab.
- Under View banks and brokerages, on the left, click the name of the bank or broker that you want to contact.
- Under View contact information, click the name of the bank or broker.
- On the Money navigation bar, click the Banking tab, click Account tools and then click Manage Online Services.
- Click on the financial institution that you want to turn off online services for.
- Click Stop using online services.
Follow the online steps to complete the process of turning off online services.
Note If online services are turned on for more than one account at one financial institution, you may have to follow the steps in the "Step 2: Turn Off Online Services for the Account" section of this article for each of those accounts to turn off all of the online services for that financial institution. Once you have completely turned off online services for your financial institution, you can then re-setup services. During the setup process, ensure you carefully match the downloaded accounts with the imported accounts fro your financial institution. Step 3: Turn On Online Services for the Account
To turn on online services for the account, follow these steps: - Open Money
- On the Money navigation bar, click the Banking tab, click Account tools and then click Manage Online Services.
- Locate the financial institution you want to setup for online services.
- Under To do click Set up online services.
- Follow the instructions in the wizard to setup your online services. When asked if these are new or existing accounts, ensure you choose existing and match the accounts up accordingly to the accounts you already have setup in Money.
