Error message when you exit a Visual Basic application that uses the LUARedirectFS shim on a Windows XP-based computer: "The instruction at '0x7c9105f8' referenced memory at '0x00350010'" (909918)

SYMPTOMS

When you exit a Microsoft Visual Basic application on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP, you receive the following error message:

Application popup: application name - Application Error : The instruction at "0x7c9105f8" referenced memory at "0x00350010". The memory could not be "read".

You experience this symptom if the following conditions are true:

The computer was upgraded from Microsoft Windows 95 to Windows XP.
You are running Windows XP in a managed environment.
The Visual Basic application uses the LUARedirectFS shim.

RESOLUTION

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Only apply it to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains this hotfix.
