The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service

SYMPTOMS

You cannot use the Setup.exe command together with the /guionly command-line switch to create an answer file on a computer that has the evaluation version of Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service installed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the product key for the evaluation version of Windows Embedded for Point of Service is not recognized as a valid product key when you use the Setup.exe command together with the /guionly command-line switch. Therefore, you cannot complete the setup process and create an answer file.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use the /guionly command-line switch, Windows Embedded for Point of Service is not installed on the computer. The /guionly command-line switch is used to record user responses during setup and create an answer file. This answer file can be used to perform an unattended setup of Windows Embedded for Point of Service.

This behavior does not occur when you use the Setup.exe command together with the /guionly command-line switch to create an answer file in the Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service OEM or Microsoft Windows Embedded for Point of Service Volume License versions.
