The Security tab and the "Limit number of query result items" check box are not available in SMS 2.0 and in SMS 2003 (909635)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0

SYMPTOMS

You want to assign permissions to the Query class for a user group in Microsoft Systems Management Server (SMS) 2.0 or in Microsoft SMS 2003. However, in the Queries Properties dialog box, the Security tab and the Limit number of query result items check box are not available to the users in the user group.

CAUSE

The users in this user group do actually have applicable permissions to the Query class. However, the Security tab and the Limit number of query result items check box are unavailable because of a known problem with the SMS Administrator console.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, use the SMS User Wizard to modify Query class permissions instead of using the Security tab in the Queries Properties dialog box.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

MORE INFORMATION

To use the SMS User Wizard, follow these steps:
  1. Open the SMS Administrator console, and then expand Site Database (site code - site name).
  2. Right-click Security Rights, point to All Tasks, and then click Manage SMS Users.
