SYMPTOMS

Two or more documents may have the same document number in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006. For example, two invoices from two different vendors may have the same invoice number.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Allow duplicate Document numbers option is turned on in the Company Preferences dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To prevent duplicate document numbers:
  1. On the Company menu, click Preferences. The Company Preferences dialog box opens.
  2. Click the Company tab, and then click to clear the Allow duplicate Document numbers check box.
