The list of available task panes in the task pane list does not include the Document Actions task pane when you modify Word templates in Small Business Accounting (909625)


The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting 2006
  • Microsoft Office Small Business Management Edition 2006

SYMPTOMS

When you modify Microsoft Word templates in Microsoft Office Small Business Accounting, the list of available task panes in the task pane list does not include the Document Actions task pane. The Document Actions task pane is required to add fields to templates.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when either of the following conditions is true:
  • You are not using the version of Microsoft Office Word 2003 that is part of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 or Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003.
  • You are using the version of Microsoft Office Word 2003 that is part of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 or Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003, and you downloaded Service Pack 1 for Business Contact Manager Update and Small Business Accounting.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Verify that you are using the version of Microsoft Office Word 2003 that is part of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 or Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003. If you confirm that you are using Microsoft Office Word 2003 and if the Document Actions option is still unavailable in the Task Pane, go to step 2.

    Note To add fields to Word templates, you must use the version of Microsoft Office Word 2003 that is part of Microsoft Office Professional 2003 or Microsoft Office Professional Enterprise Edition 2003. However, you can use other versions of Word to remove fields, to change font styles, to insert pictures, and to add text.
  2. Enable the Document Actions option when you try to modify a Word template. You must repeat these steps for each template:
    1. On the Company menu, click Manage Word Templates.
    2. In the Template types list, select the template type that you want to modify.
    3. In the Templates list, select the template that you want to modify.
    4. Click Modify.
    5. In Word, click Task Pane on the View menu if Task Pane is not already selected. The task pane opens.
    6. On the Tools menu, click Templates and Add-Ins.
    7. Click the XML Expansion Packs tab.
    8. In the Available XML expansion packs list, click Smart Document for Document Type.
    9. Click Attach, and then click OK.

      The Document Actions task pane is now an available option in the task pane.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.
