Manual steps to change the power options

To manually set the power options in Windows XP so that you are not prompted for a password when your computer resumes from standby, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type powercfg.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click to clear the Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby check box.
  4. Click OK.
Windows will not prompt you for a password when the computer resumes from standby. If you want to be prompted for a password, click to select the Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby check box.
